Dandelion Wine
近所の古本屋で買ったらレジの典型的な読書好きみたいな雰囲気の女の子が、'Dandelion Wine! My most favorite book!' と言ってものすごく感激していた。いつも古典的な小説ばかり読んでいる私は、なんとなくもともと英語のSF的なものを読んでみるかなあと思って、そういえばブラッドベリって有名だなあと思って適当に買ったのでそのときは正直戸惑った。まあ読んでみるとなるほど、そうやって感激するのもわかる美しさだ、というかノスタルジーか。ノスタルジー。自分がいつか死ぬって知ったのはいつだったんだろう。

日本の商用ウェブサイトに原稿を出すと、段落が改まるとき、このように空行を入れたうえで、段落の最初に1字、空白をあける。私の知っている限り、新聞社もCNETやASCII.jpなどもすべてそうなっているが、これは日本だけの奇習である。海外のサイト（たとえばNYタイムズ）では、空行を入れるだけで、行頭に空白は入れない。

This is an equivalent to saying that writing in Japanese is a peculiar custom of Japan. It does make sense if he asks why Japanese formatting custom requires the first sentence of a paragraph to be indented. But his logic, 'Japanese websites are wrong because New York Times doesn't indent.', sounds ridiculous to me.

Chinese also do indent one character at the beginning of a paragraph. But never mind, it is just only one of those weird local rules for only about 1.3billion people.

神々は黄昏

ブリュンヒルデが奥のよくわからないところに落ちていくのはシェローのみたいだなあ。こっちの方が火を派手に使っててきれいだけどなあ。とか思ってたらラインの乙女がいきなり服を脱ぎだして真っ裸になったので他のことはどうでもよくなった。三人とも下の毛もふさふさなのがいいと思った。

あとオペラで脱ぐと言えばリヒャルト・シュトラウスのサロメの「7つのヴェールの踊り」がありがちかなあと思ったらあった。

こっちはCatherine Malfitanoには失礼だが長い割にしょぼいな。

Tony couldn't believe his eyes because the man was very small. He was as small as a volleyball and looked very old.

"Who are you?" Tony asked.

The small man didn't answer. He kept staring at Tony.

Tony asked again. "Who are you? Are you a ...human?"

The man started speaking.

“My name is Asterisk. I live in this school. I know why you are here. You want to go to your classroom, right?”

Tony was frightened. The small man seemed to know him. But it was impossible. He had never seen the man. And the man was too small to be a human being!

"I am not a human. I am a fairy. I am not visible to humans but it looks like you can see me. You must be a special boy." Asterisk said.

Tony asked Asterisk.

"I need to go to my classroom to get my Garakuta. May I?"

"Yes."

Asterisk answered.

"I can let you go into the school. But you have to go to the classroom by yourself."

"What do you mean?"

"There are many creatures inside the school. Some are not very friendly. You've got to make your way to the classroom by yourself."

ほとんど原形をとどめていない部分も多々あったりしてなんだこりゃと思われるかもしれない。もう次の回からはしません。
